This giant statue that you see on
the above picture was taken in Grand Bassin, this place is
considered holy for the Hindu community of Mauritius Island. It
was only in 1998 that the lake has been declared sacred. There
has been a temple constructed which is dedicated to the Lord
Shiva and other Indian Gods. This giant statue is known as
Mangal Mahadev and is 108 feet high. It is the highest statue
constructed in Mauritius Island. The Mangal Mahadev statue has
been inaugurated in 2007. The statue looks so huge and forms
part of one of the high monuments in the world. Maha Shivaratree
is celebrated every year and the Hindu makes a pilgrimage from
their home to the sacred lake. There are different Hindu legends
about how was born the Ganga Talao. There is a lot of Hindu god
statues at Grand Bassin. Hindu Gods are mainly with animals’
heads and human bodies; this is one of the reasons why animals
are also considered as sacred for Hindus. |
