Mauritius Telecom
was until not so long ago the monopole telecom company in
Mauritius Island.
In 1992 was
established the Mauritius Telecom and in 2000 they went in a
partnership with France Telecom as Mauritius Telecom wanted
to secure the market share.
With the
partnership of Mauritius Telecom with France Telecom there
has been a lot of development in the telecommunication
branch.
Telecom forms part
of the top enterprises in the country. Around the year
2000-2001 Mauritius Telecom started offering ADSL line,
which at this time was very expensive, Mauritius had at this
time around 250 ADSL users for Mauritius which was not much,
and now Mauritius Telecom has over 10,000 ADSL clients all
over the island.

Since 2006
Mauritius Telecom offered a new service called Myt
consisting of ADSL line, TV and phone. Through the same line
you can connect to ADSL watch TV or rent online videos and
call for low cost all around the world.
Here is the
statistic of Mauritius Telecom; they have around 350,000
fixed line clients, 50,000 dial-up Internet, 500,000 mobile
users, and 22,000 ADSL and Myt users.
Mauritius Telecom
is trying to offer the best services as the law has changed
and has allowed other companies to operate in
telecommunication business which make Telecom not anymore
having the monopole.
But the ADSL line
for the island is still not as good as in Europe, but we
mustn’t forget that Mauritius is an island and is connected
through a big undersea cable the SAT3/WASC/SAFE.
Mauritius
Telecom is always doing its best in upgrading the line; this
is what is said by Mauritius Telecom.
