Mauritius is a
beautiful island located in the Indian Ocean. It is not only
an island which has as places of interest beaches only;
there is a large number of places of interest which are
waiting for your visit.

the places of interest that can be visited in Mauritius:
Casela Park
The Casela Park is
located on the western side of the island, not far from Flic
en Flac. The park is mainly a bird park of around twenty
five acres. The park is home of about one hundred and fifty
species of birds. The pink pigeon which is one of the rarest
birds of Mauritius Island can be seen in the park. But in
Casela you can also see, tortoises, tigers, monkeys and
deers.
Pamplemousses Botanical
Gardens

The Pamplemousses
Botanical Gardens is one of the most famous botanical
gardens of the island.
It is found in the village of Pamplemousses in the North of Mauritius.
The garden has been
created by Mahé de Labourdonnais, the first French Governor
of the island. The gardens were created as from the year
1735.
The garden was in the past known as Mon Plaisir and is
one of the finest gardens in the world. One of the main
attractions of the garden is the giant water lilies known as
Victoria Regia.
There is in the botanical gardens about five
hundred plants species.

Domaine du Chasseur
Domaine du Chasser
is on a private land of three thousand acres of forest
located in the south east of the island at Anse Jonchée. The
Domaine du Chasseur is on the high hills and you can observe
the Vieux Grand Port Bay from there. This tropical forest is
also home of an endangered bird species known as the
Mauritian Kestrel, a large number of other birds, monkeys,
wild boars and Javanese stags.
Domaine Les Pailles
Domaine Les Pailles
is located in Pailles about ten minutes from the capital
city, Port Louis. There is large number of activities
proposed by the park as visiting it in Land Rover and horse
riding. You will also discover in the nature park the
traditional way of making sugar with an ancient sugar mill.
Chamarel
Chamarel is a very
popular place in the island located in the Black River
district where can be seen the famous seven coloured earths.
It is volcanic ashes which have seven different colours
which happened with weathering. It is a fascinating place
which is worth a visit.
Grand Bassin
Grand Bassin is
sacred to the Hindu population of Mauritius. It is a natural
lake in a crater of an extinct volcano. The Mauritian Hindu
used to do pilgrimage especially during Maha Shivaratree,
they do it to thank the God Shiva for having saved the
world.
Aquarium
The aquarium of
Mauritius is located in the North of the island. The
aquarium offers a large number of fish, corals, sponges and
invertebrates. You can admire in miniature the fauna and
flora of the Indian Ocean.
Ile aux Cerfs
Ile aux Cerfs is a
small island located near the east coast of Mauritius and is
accessible with a boat. It is a magnificent place with
beautiful white sandy beaches, clear calm waters and palm
trees. It is worth a visit.
Euréka
Euréka is a
beautiful colonial house with antique furniture. This
colonial house has a particularity of having over one
hundred windows and doors. It is surrounded with a
magnificent garden and there is also a restaurant proposing
local cuisine.
Le Val Nature Park
Le Val is located
in the Plaines Wilhems district. It is a natural reserve
where you can observe breeding of giant prawns and a large
variety of anthurium grown there mainly for export to
Europe.
Floreal Square and Textile
Museum
In the Floreal
Square you will discover the textile museum, shopping centre
and a café. The Textile Museum is a place where you will
discover the universe of Mauritian knitwear and textile
which is one of the main economy of the island.
La Vanille Crocodile Park
La Vanille
Crocodile Park is located in the South of the island.
Located in a tropical dense forest, you will discover Nile
Crocodiles which have been imported from Madagascar to be
bred. There are also other animals found in the park as
giant tortoises, monkeys, bats and wild boars.
Le Barachois
Le Barachois is in
an environment of mangrove and is located near Vieux Grand
Port.
Trou aux Cerfs
Trou aux Cerfs is
an extinct volcano located on the central plateau in
Curepipe where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the west
side of Mauritius Island.
Naval Museum
The Naval Museum
has been created in a French colonial mansion located in the
village of Mahébourg. In the museum you will discover a lot
of objects found in the wreckages surrounding Mauritius
Island.
Mauritius Glass Gallery
In the Mauritius
Glass Gallery you can see a large of men and women working
and bringing life to glass by using traditional techniques.
It is a fabulous place to be visited. The factory and shop
is located at Pont Fer Phoenix.
Waterfalls
There are fabulous
waterfalls in the island. Two of the main waterfalls which
make part of the tours are the Rochester Falls located in
Souillac and the Chamarel Falls near the seven coloured
earths.
Karting
Since 2001 you have
the opportunity to visit Kart Loisir and do karting. Karting
is a quite new sport to Mauritius. Kart Loisir is located at
La Joulieete Petite Rivière. The area is surrounded of a
magnificent view.
L’aventure du sucre
Discover in the north of Mauritius, in Beau Champs the sugar
museum created in an ancient sugar industry.
There is also a shop where you can taste the Mauritian rum
and the different sorts of sugar and also buy
some.
