Rodrigues Island is one of the dependencies of Mauritius Island. Rodrigues Island was discovered by Diego Rodriguez, an explorer, in 1528, this is from where the island got its name.
Rodrigues is the smallest island of the Mascarene. Rodrigues is known as the authentic island for its beauty, tranquility, charm, nature.

 

There is not a large population in Rodrigues Island it is about 40,000.


The capital city of the island is Port Mathurin. The official language is English as Mauritius but they speak French too. Most Rodriguans speaks Creole. All the laws are the same as in Mauritius.


The economy of Rodrigues is mainly based on agriculture, fishing, tourism and handicraft.


In Rodrigues each inhabitant’s house looks like a small farm, a typical Rodriguan is usually a fisherman or a farmer.

 

The main population is catholic in Rodrigues Island other religion is in minority. The life on the island is very simple. 

 

A large number of tourists visiting Mauritius have a trip to Rodrigues. Rodrigues Island has beautiful natural beaches where you can enjoy the sun.

As for Mauritius, there are a large number of activities proposed to the tourists visiting the island as big game fishing, diving, windsurf, water sports.

There is less rain on Rodrigues Island and there is less humidity in air than in Mauritius. It is warmer and drier on Rodrigues Island.
