traced since the French colonized the island.

A police Headquarters was created in October 1803 by Decaen

“Tribunal de Premiere Instance”.
Football is a very important sport for Mauritian. Mauritius
has different football groups formed locally.
In the past, the Police Headquarters was situated at Places
d’Armes aside the Government House facing the sea.
Afterwards in 1810, it was transferred to Pope Henessy
Street. It was only in 1922 that it has its actual location
at Line Barracks. |

During the time of Mahé Labourdonnais, the construction of
Line Barracks started, which was in 1740 and ended in 1774,
the date can still be seen engraved on the gate in
Deschartes Street.
During the British colonial in 1810, Mr. Blane took command
of the Police Force.
The police ordinance was enacted in 1893 and has now been
replaced by the Police Act 1974.
Until 1934, the chief of the Police Force was called
Inspector General of Police and now it has changed to
Commissioner of Police.
Nowadays the Mauritius Police force is fully responsible to
the civil authorities which includes the Special Mobile
Force a paramilitary wing, the Police Helicopter Squadron an
