At Grand Bassin, an Indian holy
place, in Mauritius Island visitors will see temples and the
different gods the Indian pray. Lot of the Indian gods have
animals’ forms, as the picture above showing a god with a monkey
head but a human body. Hanuman is the name of the monkey god is
considered to live eternally which mean for the Indians,
Chiranjeevi. The monkey god has various powers and skills and is
strong. The monkey god is also known under several other names
as Maruthi, Aanjaneyalu, Anumandhayya, Siriya Thiruvadi. The
monkey had only only which was serving his Lord rama with
devotion and humility. Hanuman was not only considered
Chiranjeevi but also a yogi, a gnani, a brahmachari and was also
wise. Hanuman was the son of Anjana Devi, who was a celestial
maiden and was born as woman monkey, she was married to Kesari.
While the King Dasaratha was doing a yagna praying, a pot of
pudding (payasam) was yielded from the fire, the prasada was
shared between his wives and was born, Lakshmana, Shatrugana,
Rama and Bharatha. Some of this pudding carried by Vayu Deva,
the Lord of Winds and fell in Anjana Devi’s hands and she gave
birth to a son, Hanuman. As the Lord is responsible of what
happened he is also considered to be Hanuman’s father. He had an
important in the Ramayana and was the devotee of Rama. Rama was
the seventh avatara of Vishnu and the king of ancient India. |
