Medine sugar estate is one of the
various estates that exist in Mauritius Island. In the past
there were a large number of sugar factories on the island.
Nowadays they are much less sugar factories in Mauritius as the
island doesn’t live mainly from sugar but also from tourism and
textile. Sugar is produced for local use and for exportation.
Medine sugar estate has also its own distillery on the estate.
During the harvest time, the canes are cut by labourers working
from early morning and are brought to the Medine estate with big
lorries. The harvest duration is usually around six months of
the year. |
