The white blotched grouper is a fish
species that you can discover in the interesting
aquarium of Mauritius. Its scientific name is known as
epinephelus multinotatus. It forms parts of the
serranidae family. Its colour is dark purplish gray with
scattered irregular whitish spots and blotches which are
faint or absent in preserved fish. The white blotched
grouper inhabits clear to turbid water. The juveniles
are found in inshore coral reefs. They feed in water to
more than 100 meters depth. Their main food is small
fishes and crabs. The maximum size they can attain is
100 cm. In Mauritius the white blotched grouper is known
as “vielle plate”. |
