Western Union
exists for over one hundred and fifty years but in Mauritius it
exists since a few years ago. Western Union was founded in 1851,
the company first started as a telegraph which was used to send
messages to millions of people in the world. In 1851 the company
was known as “The New York Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph
Company” and it was only in 1856 that it was called Western
Union, at this time to signify the union of the eastern lines
and western telegraph lines in one system. The Western Union
Money Transfer service has been introduced in 1871 which became
then the primary business of the firm. Western Union agents are
found in over two hundred countries and territories in the
world. In 1914 Western Union introduced the consumer card, in
1920 the teletywriters and in 1933 singing telegrams. Western
Union services are found in different part of the island and are
also found in the State Banks of the island. |
