Bagasse comes from sugar cane,
this the main material used in the rum production. After having
the rum which has a high percentage of alcohol the liquid is
kept in casks in a room to be matured. In Medine sugar estate
located in the west side of Mauritius near the coast, there is a
rum distillery which is open to public and it is explained and
shown how sugar and rum is produced. A large part of Mauritius
Island land is cultivated with sugar cane which has been
introduced during colonisation of the island. Before the island
was colonised, it was just covered of green forest and
vegetation which is disappearing with time. |
