A paint of a sugar shop. The
eighteenth century which saw the apex of refinement and
the art of living in Europe discovered coffee and
chocolate which became fashionable beverages. “Chocolate
time” as François Boucher painted it is a testimony of
party delicacies. The first public café, Le Procope then
opened its doors in Paris. It is today the oldest café
in the world. These bitterish beverages call for the use
of sugar, whose consumption will soar. Sugar as a
current consumer good, had now become a staple word. |
