The spider tortoise is endemic to
Madagascar located in the Indian Ocean near South Africa. The
spider tortoise can be seen in the Casela Bird Park in Mauritius
Island. The spider tortoise is not so big but looks nice. The
name comes probably from its carapace because it looks like a
spider net. This tortoise does not hibernate, likes a humidity
level of around seventy percent. The spider tortoises are mostly
active in the morning after sunrise and remain inactive until
late afternoon or next morning. Their main foods are usually
vegetables and fruits. You can see on the picture above that the
spider tortoise prefers shade than sunny areas. |
