Snake gods are worshipped since a
very long in the Hindu belief. Nagas which are considered as
supernatural beings having snake and human body are found in
Hinduism. In the different stories of Hinduism are found
serpents, Manasadevi is known as the queen of snakes, Shiva as
most of the time a snake around his neck as ornament, Shesha or
the 1,000 headed snake is said to be used by Vishnu to rest and
it is said too that Shesha sheltered Krishna from a
thunderstorm, Ananta is the snake that circles the world and is
considered as endless. There is a festival which is celebrated
where snakes are worshipped, for the Hindus, nag panchami is
very important. During the festival snakes statues are offered
gift and in return the prayers ask for gain of wealth, fame and
knowledge. |
