Sanskrit is one of the official
of India and also a liturgical language of Jainism, Buddism and
Sikhism. Sanskrit is seen in the pre classical form as vedic
Sanskrit. The language since very long there is even help given
to learn and understand Sanskrit. There has been manuscript
written on palm leaf during the eleventh century. Actually
Sanskrit was not thought as a specific language. Sanskrit was
mainly taught to higher castes and when you could understand
Sanskrit it was considered as a marker of social class. In
Mauritius most of the government school have Hindi as language.
The new Hindu generation in Mauritius does not speak so much
Hindi anymore and are not really interested. Hindi actually
comes from the ancestors who were brought as slaves to Mauritius
to work in the sugar cane fields during slavery period. After
slavery abolished a lot of the Indian stayed in Mauritius. |
