Don’t worry if
you are waking in the Port Louis market and have a very strange
which can’t be described. This is just salted dried fish or
salted dried octopus, lot of Mauritian enjoy eating it. It has
special smell, but taste quite good; if you think of the smell
you will never put a piece in your mouth. Salted fish or octopus
is usually prepared in chutney, known in Mauritius as “chatini
poisson sale, chatini ourite”. Usually before cooking it is left
in water for a while or else it is too salty then it can be
fried or grilled. It is something to try; you may like it or may
not like it at all. Lot of tourist do not really enjoy it
because of its special taste.
