The Red Cheeked Parrot is one of the birds that you can discover in the Casela Bird Park of Mauritius. The scientific name of the red cheeked parrot is “geoffroyus geoffroyi”, this bird make part of the family of “psittacidae”. When the parrot is adult it has a height of around 25 cm. Its body length is around 20 cm. In general their plumage is bright green and in their face bright red. The Red Cheeked Parrot is usually native of Australian or Indonesian, but can also be found on the Islands of Papua New Guinea, Timor, Leser Sunda, Aru and Moluccas. They usually live in tops of rain forest, in gallery forest trees and usually live in a small group of family or in pairs. They are most of the time in pairs during the breeding season. Red Cheeked Parrots are usually considered as quite shy birds, not aggressive but when it is feeding time they can get very noisy. Their main food is seeds and sometimes fruits as figs, nectar and blossom.
