On the mountains you can observe a temple. It is located in Port Louis. There is in Mauritius Island a large number of temples which have been built during the last years and also in the past during the period of importation of the Indians to the island. The population of Mauritius are in majority from Indian descendants which are known as Mauritian Hindus. Most of the Indians are descendants from the labourers who were brought from Bihar a state in India to work in Mauritius in sugar cane fields. Building temples started by the Hindus who settled on the island and decided in a group to build temples for their beliefs and religious practices. Nowadays Mauritius has temples in almost every corner of the island. But as Mauritius is a mixture of culture you may find a mosque, a pagoda or a church next to a temple.
