The Mauritius Institute is a
building located in Port Louis, the smallest and capital city of
Mauritius Island. The Mauritius Institute is easy to recognize
because it is yellow. On the ground floor of the building is
located the Natural History Museum and is the oldest museum of
Mauritius Island. The Mauritius Institute is located next to the
Botanical Garden of Port Louis known as Jardin de la Compagnie.
There museum is separated in there galleries, in the first are
seen mammals, reptiles and birds, there is also a skeleton of
the famous Dodo, a bird unique to Mauritius and extinct in 1860,
in the second gallery is mainly about marine life and the third
gallery is about tortoise, geology and insects. It is not
allowed make pictures in the museum and the entrance is free of
charge. |
