The octopus cyanea is the scientific name for the day octopus. It is a large octopus and one of the most common octopuses in the indo pacific reefs. It has a brown colour but can is fast change its colour and skin texture. Its body is around 16 cm and it can weigh up to 4.5 kg. The octopus has eight arms. They are probably the most intelligent invertebrates. With the millions of pigments cells they can very change and mix their skin colour. Known in Mauritius as “ourite”.
