Sugar is mainly produced for
local market but also for exportation. Medine sugar estate is
one of the factories of Mauritius that produces sugar. Sugar for
the local market is usually known as brown sugar because it is
red and the price is less. For exportation it is usually white
sugar but it has been seen that tourist like the red sugar too.
Sugar is produced from sugar cane. The production of sugar is
quite important for Mauritius Island, lot of people live from it
for example the labourers working hard during harvest time. The
duration of harvesting is around six months. These are the
months of the year where the labourers have a lot of work. |
