During the harvest time in
Mauritius Island you will see on the roads a large number of
lorries as the lorry on the picture in Medine estate. Medine is
near Flic en Flac in the Black River district. The lorries are
driven in the sugar cane fields and transport the sugar cane
which have been cut early morning and are then carried to the
different sugar factories of Mauritius Island. The harvest time
usually as from June and ends in December but it may differ
every year. In the past there was much more sugar factories in
Mauritius Island as the most money for the island was earned
with sugar but with the years it has been overtaken by tourism
and textile. |
