In Medine there is the sugar
factory which exists for years ago but more interesting is the
distillery which produces rum for Mauritius and for export.
Medine is located in the western side of Mauritius Island near
Bambou a small village too. Mauritius Island is a magnificent
island where you will discover how slaves has been imported to
the island to work in the fields and how the land has been
colonised from the British and French who fought for the island.
The economy of the county lives locally mainly from the
production and exportation of sugar. Rum is also very present in
the island; it is produced from sugar exactly from bagasses. Rum
has a high percentage in it. In Medine distillery there is a
large number of casks a sthe one seen on the picture above which
are there to keep the rum and let it mature. On the cask above
you can see the number of the cask, the date, the quantity and
the degree of alcohol. |
