In every city in Mauritius, there is a
post office, even in small village there is a post office.
Since 2003, the Mauritius post is known as The Mauritius
Post Ltd, before it was part of the government department
which was operating under the aegis of the Ministry of
Information Technology and Telecommunications.
The post in Mauritius was first established during the
colonization of the French by Pierre Nicolas Lambert, the
post forms part of the oldest institutions of the island.

When the British took possession of the island, the postal
services deteriorated.
In 1847, Mauritius Island produced its first two famous
stamps which are until now two of the rarest stamps of the
world. The two stamps were engraved and printed in Port
Louis, Mauritius the capital city of Mauritius by Joseph
Osmond Barnard.
In 1848, an order was placed with Pekins Bacon from Britain
for the printing of postage stamps. The first 100,000
arrived in 1849.

Most of the stamps during the last 150 years featured the
profiles of the Arms of the colony, Queen Victoria, King
Edward VII, King George VI, King George V, and Queen
Elizabeth II. Since 1950 there were stamps produced with
birds, marine life and other pictures.
As from independence
since 1968, the Mauritius stamps were issued with political
evolution, history, culture, fauna, and flora.
The post of Mauritius offers bank services, telegram, and
usual postal services. The Mauritius Post also works
together with FedEx.

In the post the Mauritian people can pay their electricity
and water bills, pay the road tax of their cars too.
