For the Mauritius backpackers, the island
is a perfect place, with waterfalls, forests, beaches with white sand,
coral reefs and straits. Situated at East of Madagascar, Mauritius it
has a surface of 1.860 square kilometres and is one of the dream
destinations for an idyllic vacation for the Mauritius backpackers.
It has modern resorts carefully designed
to keep the beauty of island. Even if the people visiting the island
come here due to the fine sand or due to the lagoons, the Mauritius
backpackers are nicely surprised to find out that there are many other
attractions that must be seen. Mauritius offers fun and food of high
quality, with tropical fruits and vegetables and the chance to learn the
local aboriginal dances – sega- from the African slaves. |

One of
the Mauritius backpackers’ destinations is Port
Louis, the capital of the island with so much
characters and elegance, being situated at the
middle of the island’s West Coast. The night life in
Mauritius is concentrated especially in resorts.
The city
has a multifaceted colonial history reflected in its
urban architecture: French style buildings dating
from the 18th century, an Anglican and a catholic
cathedral, a fortified citadel and a mosque.
From
Fort Adelaide the Mauritius backpackers can admire
the splendid view of the city, the harbour and, of
course, the famous horse speedway from Champ de
Mars. Before being speedway, the French military
parade used to take place here. Around the capital,
are the most popular beaches and resorts such as
Grand Baie and Flic en Flac. |

Port Louis offers the
Mauritius backpackers other touristic attractions
such as botanical gardens and museums. Chamarel is
also for the Mauritius backpackers, situated in the
South-West part of the island, a road that starts in
the Case Noyal village and ends at the fascinating
geological attraction ‘The Seven Coloured Earth’.

A variety of coloured
sand with particles of blue, green, red and yellow
land resulted from the volcanic rocks. A splendid
waterfall offers the visitors a wonderful view in
the middle of luxuriant vegetation. Curepipe is also
interesting for the Mauritius backpackers. It is
situated on the central plateau of the island, at 20
kilometres of Port Louis and it owes its existence
to a malaria plague from 1867, when thousands of
people left to find a more healthy and higher than
Port Louis place to get rid of mosquito. The main
attraction is represented by the inactive volcano
Trou aux Cerfs, at West of the city, near to the
botanic gardens. Another natural attraction at only
6 kilometres away of Curepipe is the Black River
Gorges National Park, with a variety of exotic flora
and fauna. The Mauritius backpackers don’t have to
miss the small Ile aux Cerfs Island (the Island with
deer), situated at East of Mauritius. |
It is a popular touristic paradise, an
island with tropical vegetation and surrounded by wonderful
beaches that can be visited coming with a boat from the
small fishermen village Trou d’eau Douce.
