The Blue Penny Museum
is one of the Mauritius attractions, situated in Caudan Waterfront and
specialised in the Mauritius Island’s art and history, but especially on
the philatelic history of this state. The museum has two of the rarest
stamps in the world: the one penny orange stamp and the two penny blue
stamp, both from 1847, estimated at 1 million dollars each. The address
is: Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis and is open from Tuesday to Saturday
from 10.00 to 17.00. The Central Market is also one of the Mauritius
attractions. The diversity of the locals from Port Louis is much more
evident in the space of the Central Market at which you can go from the
Farquhar Street, near to the harbour. The Central Park of Mauritius has
a unique work of its iron parts built to praise the queen Victoria.

Chinese, Indian, Muslims-all of them sells their
fruits, herbals and other things in this place.
It is
recommended to visit the market in the morning,
before the hottest period of the day (it opens
daily, at 06.00, including Sundays). Chamarel
doesn’t have to be missed from the Mauritius
attractions list.
In the South-West of
the island, a road twists and turns from the Case
Noyal village to the fascinating geological
attraction the Seven Coloured Earth.
Here you can
find a large variety of coloured sand with blue,
green, yellow and red land particles resulted from
the volcanic rocks.
Close, a splendid
waterfall offers the visitors a wonderful view in
the middle of luxuriant vegetation. The Mauritius
attractions list includes the Natural History
Museum. |
|
|
It hosts a very
important exhibit for the natural history of Terra:
a replica of the legendary Dodo bird, which totally
disappeared at the end of the 17 th century.
The Dodo bird could be found only in Mauritius and
was discovered by the Portuguese explorers around
1505.

The
address of the museum is: Chaussee Street and the program is from Sunday to
Monday from 09.00 to 17.00. The museum is closed on Wednesdays. The Royal
Botanical Gardens from Pamplemoussses are also important Mauritius attractions.
These spectacular gardens, the main touristic attraction of the island are
situated at about 11 kilometres North-East from the Port Louis and the access is
made with buses travelling in this direction.
Today,
these gardens are officially called the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoollam Botanic
Gardens, in the honor of the last country’s prime minister but they are best
known with the anterior name. The land of these gardens is protected by an iron
guard that won a prize at an international competition from Crystal Palace in
London, in 1862 when it was built.
|
The gardens were arranged for
the very first time in 1735, around the Mon Plaisir hall.
Later, the house was bought by the Pierre Poivre, which
brought diverse plants species from all over the world. You
can see palms, fruit-trees, aromatic plants, mahogany trees,
pandanus and a lake with huge water lilies from Amazon. The
daily program is from 09.00 to 18.00.
