The Indian mythology is unique in
the world and is the richest element in the Indian culture.
Different stories have been passed through by written stored
scripts or word to mouth from generation to generation. The
Indian stories have sometimes different mythology and different
meanings. There is in the Indian mythology different periods. In
Mauritius the mythology has been brought from word to mouth
mainly and sometimes the stories told in Mauritius are a bit
different from those from India. The most read and popular
purana in the world is the Bhagavatham, it refers to the story
of the God Vishnu and its incarnations. In Mauritius Island
there is a large number of Hindus, the reason is that during the
slavery period a lot of slaves were brought from India to
Mauritius to works in the sugar cane fields. When slavery was
abolished a lot stayed on the island and went on with their life
and this one of the reason that the largest population of
Mauritius are Hindus. |
