The Indian mythology is unique in the world and is the richest element in the Indian culture. Different stories have been passed through by written stored scripts or word to mouth from generation to generation. The Indian stories have sometimes different mythology and different meanings. There is in the Indian mythology different periods. In Mauritius the mythology has been brought from word to mouth mainly and sometimes the stories told in Mauritius are a bit different from those from India. The most read and popular purana in the world is the Bhagavatham, it refers to the story of the God Vishnu and its incarnations. In Mauritius Island there is a large number of Hindus, the reason is that during the slavery period a lot of slaves were brought from India to Mauritius to works in the sugar cane fields. When slavery was abolished a lot stayed on the island and went on with their life and this one of the reason that the largest population of Mauritius are Hindus.
