Eel can be found in the largest tank, “Grand Bleu”, of the Mauritius aquarium exactly the moray eel. The moray eel are giant eels. They can measure up to 4 meters but most of them have a length of 1.5 meters and can weigh up to 65 kg. They are mostly found in tropical coral reefs up to 200 m depth. They make part of the murraenidae family. The moray eel is carnivorous, their main food is fish. Most eel species are known to be predators. In Japan the freshwater and saltwater eels are often used in their cuisine but are also used in shanghai and Cantonese cuisine too. And the European eel is eaten in European countries and other places of the world. The skins of the eels are mostly used to produce wallets. The moray eel is known as “anguille morel” in Mauritius.
