The Pamplemousses botanical garden renamed now as Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam is dense in vegetation. The property here is now located the botanical garden was bought by the French governor of Mauritius, known at this period as Ile de France. The dense vegetation includes dozen of palm varieties, there also ponds of giant water lilies known as Victoria amazonica named after the Queen Victoria. The botanical is almost three hundred years old and around twenty five hectares of land. There are other botanical gardens on the island but not as beautiful as the pamplemousses botanical gardens. Each of the avenues of the garden has a name, when an important people visits the island as the queen from England they plant their own tree in the garden.
