Coin de Mire is an islet located
at around eight kms to the north coast of Mauritius Island. When
you drive to Grand Bay, the Coin de Mire islet can be seen from
the main road going direction Grand bay. On this islet, which is
around sixty five hectares you can see rest of primary
vegetation as Bois de Chandelle, le Bois de Clous, la liane
Bambaras. Not so long ago the islet has been cleared of rabbits.
The bird population of Coin de Mire are the Fouquets and the
Pailles en Queue. The islet is also known as Gunner’s Quoin. On
the islet can also still be seen remnants of sugar plantation
which were cultivated by the Dutch settlers. The view on the
northern coast of Mauritius is magnificent. |
