The function of the ventilator was to
draw air into the furnaces, in order to improve
combustion of the fuel through better oxygenation. The
air from the furnaces was then blown into the chimney to
allow the entry of oxygen from outside. When the blower
was stopped, so were the furnaces. A speed control of
the blower was all important to prevent too great an
intake of air which would cause the fuel to burn faster. |
