On the picture above you can see
a barbary turtle dove also known as ringed turtle dove, the
scientific name of this bird is streptopelia risoria. The
barbary turtle dove can be watched in the Casela Bird Park
located in the western part of Mauritius. The barbary turtle
dove forms part of the Columbidae family. This bird has a short
neck, it is not a very big bird, it has short slender bill with
fleshy cere. The barbary turtle dove measures around 30cms. They
are found a lot in Caribbean and North America. They like living
in dry forest or woodlands. Their main foods are seeds that they
collect on the ground. The Casela Park was mainly a bird park
but nowadays you can find a lot of different animal species in
the park.
